Tips for Spouses

Be Good to Yourself
Take time out for yourself! Now and then, set aside some time to do something a little bit selfish - take a long bath, cook a special dish you wouldn't normally make or hire a baby sitter and go out for the night with friends. And don't forget to give yourself credit for dealing with things as well as you have.

Stay Healthy and Happy
Be sure to take good care of yourself. Exercise regularly and eat right. (Consult your health-care provider before beginning and exercise programme.) Be sure to get enough sleep. Learn how to relax and manage stress. Don't turn to alcohol and other drugs for stress reduction. Set aside time for yourself every day.

Stay Busy
Time passes much more quickly when you're busy. Try to see separation as a time to learn something new. Maybe you could take those college courses you've always promised yourself you'd finish. You could learn new job skills, or volunteer for an organisation you support.

Do something fun and exciting
Try to spend time each week doing something out of the routine. Go to a museum or library, see a movie, go skating or go to the beach. Avoid sitting at home feeling sorry for yourself.
