Church of the RAF - St. Clement Danes

For over 1,000 years, Christian churches have stood where St Clement Danes now stands. Gutted by fire in 1941, this fine Wren building was rebuilt by the Royal Air Force to become their central church, commemorating RAF personnel killed on active service.

Its island location in the middle of the Strand is curiously symbolic, for here an atmosphere of peace and quiet prevails, quite set apart from the noise and traffic outside. St Clement Danes is a living church, prayed in daily and visited throughout the year by thousands seeking remembrance, solace and renewed hope.

Pause if you will for a moment while visiting this site to join together in prayer.

Almighty God and Father of all mercies, look with compassion on the peoples of your world. Visit this House, with your love and power and enable those who visit, those who seek, and those who are remembered here, to rejoice together in one holy fellowship to the honour and glory of your name. Support and sustain those who serve their nation by land sea or air and let them come home to the love of their families, the safety of their Country for the good of humanity and the peace of the World. Amen
