C in C, HQ Air Command, Statement Air Marshal Sir Christopher Coville - visit to Hereford And Worcester
"Putting people first" was top of the agenda for Air Marshal Sir Christopher Coville when he visited RAF personnel tasked with keeping the public safe during the national fire-fighters strike. He told them: "You've trained hard for this important task and although for many of you it is unfamiliar work I'm confident that you will do your best to provide emergency cover during difficult circumstances." Sir Christopher, who is Commander in Chief RAF Personnel & Training Command, also met Army and Royal Navy personnel when he visited RAF detachment commander Sqn Ldr Mike Burt and his teams in the Hereford and Worcester region for which they have emergency fire fighting responsibility.
A tour of the Joint Operations Centre (JOC) was followed by a visit to a temporary service fire station (TSFS) in Worcester.Although keen to hear about food, welfare and accommodation arrangements, Sir Christopher also took time to have coffee with BART and REST crews and listen to their accounts of how the first 48 hours had gone. He said: "We are aiming to give everyone as much stand down as possible between strikes. We are determined to do everything we can to ensure your safety and look after your admin needs".
Sir Christopher was delighted to hear from members of the emergency services how seamlessly the RAF and other armed forces personnel had integrated into the JOCs. "I am proud of your professionalism" he told them...The short time scale in which this performance standard has been achieved is testament to the excellent teamwork skills, flexibility and professionalism shown by Service personnel at all levels."
