Pre-Deployment Issues

The demands or stresses are evident even before we get on the job for real. In the RAF our deployment forces are drawn from all over the world and our administrative packages are designed around this. As with any system, problems can arise with paperwork, 'kitting', training and handing over our current workload to other people.

Often before we deploy there is much to get organised. Your PSF will inform you of all the things you will need to do, pre-deployment training, inoculations, IDT/IRT, making a will and other financial arrangements.

All these little demands can build up, coupled with the fact you are getting used to the idea of deploying and possible separation. It may feel like that there are brick walls all over the place and nobody is listening but usually this is far from the truth.

For some people there will be periods of separation from family and partners, some the first time, for others, this will be another deployment to add to the list. Regardless of how many times, separation is never easy, there are lots of adjustments and arrangements to make.
