Deployment Toolkit

What can I do to Help Myself?

The most important thing for you to do is be aware that deploying brings with it some demands, some positive andchallenging, others 'stressful'. These demands and the reactions to them are normal, it's all about us adjusting to the situation.

Try to follow these simple rules:
  • Expect that there may be difficulties with admin, kitting and training.
  • Give your family as much information as you can.
  • If you foresee family or other problems, let someone know.
  • Try not to build up extravagant fantasies of what the deployment will be like, you cannot predict the future!
  • Use people around you who have experienced deployment before.
  • If in doubt, ASK.
  • Remember, every one around you who has deployment experience had a first time.
  • Keep yourself occupied.
  • Get involved in team events and social activities.
  • Eat healthily and regularly.
  • Take regular exercise.
  • Be aware that extreme or traumatic events can lead to some 'strange', but normal reactions.
  • Think about returning home, it can have its little problems.
  • Talk to your family and the people around you.
  • If you experience a reaction to events and it is distressing or persistent or if you want to discuss anything mentioned in this leaflet, speak to your managers, Padre, SMO, Practice Nurse or SSAFA FH Rep.
If a reaction is distressing or persistent or if you want to discuss anything mentioned in this leaflet, speak to your managers, Padre, SMO, Practice Nurse or SSAFAFH Rep.
