Accommodation

I have heard that it is possible to be allocated accommodation for long term relationships whose partners are currently in the forces.

To qualify for Service Families Accommodation, you need to be married or in a registered Civil Partnership, or as a single parent have custody of a child or children.

Dentists

Can you please advise on who we seek assistance from as the nearest dentist that I can get my wife signed to is some 25 miles away. I have looked at the NHS Primary Care Trust website and that is the closest that it offers.

Finding a dentist can be a problem throughout the UK. You can find details of dental practises by contacting NHS Direct.

Relocation

My husband has been posted overseas and we have 2 dogs and it is going to cost £1000 to take them so i was wondering if we will be entitled to any help with the payment?

There is no financial assistance towards the moving of pets over and above the issue of Disturbance Allowance (DA). DA contributes towards the necessary additional expenses that arise when the Services require their personnel to make a qualifying move from one place to another. Some personnel will find that the expenses that they incur in connection with a particular move will be higher than the allowance paid, while for other moves they will be lower.

Service Records

I was in the RAF during the 1970s I wish to retrieve my service number and service record and would like to know how to do this.

A full copy of the record can be requested however, original documents, discharge papers/books cannot be replaced. The MOD will also provide extracts from service records. Once all the necessary information has been received, your request will be processed and you should receive a reply within 40 calendar days.

For information on obtaining a copy of your service record, please have a look at the information on the Veteran's Agency website:

Pensions

I served in the RAF from 1974 to 1986, how do I apply for my deferred pension?

I am making an enquiry on behalf of my grandfather, who has never received a pension from the RAF and he is wondering if he should have been in receipt of one. He served in the RAF between the years 1937 and 1952.

Lost Friends

I'm trying to contact my friend who has two children. She was married but is now separated. I would really appreciate it if you could please pass my email address onto her as I'd love to get in touch again. I haven't spoken to her in two years and since then I've got married. I understand you can't give me her address but please pass my details onto her! I am god mother to one of the children.

I am a member of the jubilee committee of the Rugby Club for Vets from Holland. Our club was founded 25 years ago and we want to celebrate that occasion. We are located near the Belgium and German border and we have had some members in the beginning based on Bruggen Air Force Base. We have stayed in contact for some time, but are not anymore. We still would like to invite them to our celebration. Is it possible for you to bring us in contact again. I do not know if they are still in active service.

I am getting in contact with you as I am trying find two WW2 aircrew or their relations, and I'm hoping you might be able to point me in the right direction. They were all in the same crew of a Halifax bomber on a tour of operations with 148 Squadron in the RAF based at Brindisi airfield in Italy.

Bereavement

I need to know if you are a site that could post an obituary for my father who served in the RAF - unfortunately he lost contact with all his service buddies and I have no way to let anyone know who may have served with him. I know that he would have liked people to have been informed if possible.

We do not post obituaries on this website. However, the RAF News is probably the most appropriate method to announce the sad passing of your father. Their website link is:

Help

We have a relation who is ex-RAF, who we are advised will need full time care in the near future. Does the RAF cater for these people, please advise.

For advice and assistance you need to contact the Soldier's, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association, whose contact information can be found at:

    Website: http://www.ssafa.org.uk/contactUs.html

May I also suggest that it would be beneficial to have a look at the information at the following link:

    Website: http://www.ssafa.org.uk/howWeHelp.html
as they also work closely with other RAF charitiable organisations.
