Pensions Normal Rates of Immediate Service Pension

Air Publication 3392 Volume 2 Leaflet 2004 - Annex A refers.

PMA The following annual rates of Immediate Service Pension apply to personnel whose last day of service is on or after 31st March 2003, and are subject to provisions of paragraphs 1 to 6 below:

Additions to Pension

 

1.          Aircrew Qualifying Service . Personnel in the following categories:

 

            a.      Those mustered as airmen (aircrew).

 

b. Those ground tradesmen who have given service as Pilots, Navigators, Air Engineers, Air Signallers, or were in receipt of crew pay prior to 16 May 62, or have given service since, as Air Loadmasters, providing, that on 1 Apr 72 they had given, or were giving, service which under regulations in force prior to 1 Apr 72, would give them title to an addition of pension in respect of aircrew service, and who, on or before 1 Jun 72, were engaged to serve for longer than 12 years, will receive an addition to their pension for each year of aircrew reckonable service (and proportionately for days) at the following rates:

 

 

Pilot and Navigator

These additions are subject to the total pension not exceeding 50% of the banded rate of military salary on which the pension is assessed plus long service pay.

 

2.          Previous Commissioned Service . Personnel who have had previous commissioned service which is reckonable for service, the addition to pension in respect of each year of commissioned service (up to a maximum of 9 years) will be £158.14 a year subject to a maximum award of pension of £16904.00. This addition will not be payable to officers with previous airmen service who retire as officers and opt for an airman’s pension.

 

3.          Personnel who are eligible for additions to pension in respect of both aircrew qualifying service and previous commissioned service, the limit on the total pension is the higher of the 2 applicable limits given in paras 2 and 3 above.

 

4.          Calculation of Pension . In the calculation of pension any period of reckonable service of less than one year will count proportionately according to the number of days in such period.

 

5.          Personnel who have drawn pension during any period of service included in the calculation of the pension (other than future emergencies - see Queens Regulations, Chap 41, Sects 4 and 5 ), the pension accruing in respect of that period will be halved.

 

6.          Those airmen (aircrew) who opt not to assimilate to the 1989 career structure, although retaining their existing rank and engagement as at 1 Oct 89, will retain their time-conditional rights to the pay, pension and pension related benefits of any promotion to which they would have been entitled. However, they will not be granted the rank.
