Your Life - Pensions and Retirement
There has recently been a thorough review of Armed Forces pensions. Its aim was to ensure that proper provision is made for the Services in the 21st century and that public money is being spent effectively on Service pensions. Following a consultation period, it is anticipated that a new Armed Forces Pension Scheme will be established. This would form part of a pay and employment package, designed to help attract new entrants to the Services and retain sufficient personnel to meet the numbers and structure that MOD needs.

As a member of the current AFPS, you will be eligible to transfer to this scheme if you wish. During the run-up to the introduction of a new scheme, detailed information will be made available to you so that you can make an informed judgement about whether you should apply to transfer out of the current scheme and into the new one.

In the meantime, a new series of booklets has been published explaining the current scheme in plain English and in an easily accessible format. Click here for the general guide "Your Pension Scheme Explained". Additional booklets covering specific topics in more detail will be available shortly.
