With the introduction of Joint Personnel Administration (JPA) to the RAF with effect from 1 April 08 'basic pay' will move from daily rates of pay to monthly pay. A service person's basic pay will now be paid in 12 equal monthly payments, from which appropriate mandatory deductions (e.g. Income Tax and National Insurance) will then be made.

Specialist Pay, allowances and charges will continue to be paid or deducted on a daily basis, so pay each month will still fluctuate, but these variations are likely to be smaller than was the case under the daily rate system.
